exccessiev sweating

Hyperhidrosis, commonly known as ‘excessive sweating’ is a condition that causes people to sweat excessively in specific areas of the body. It is normal to sweat if you get hot or while doing exercise as sweat production is the body’s natural way of cooling itself down. However, for those who suffer from hyperhidrosis, the body produces sweat even when it does not need to be cooled down.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that can affect the whole body or specific areas such as the scalp, forehead, armpits, hands, feet and groin. The scalp, forehead, armpits and groin are treated with injections of Botox while the hands and feet are treated with a treatment called Iontophoresis. This passes a small electric current between the hands or feet which prevents the production of sweat in those areas.

Please note: this may vary from person to person. All patients will have a full clinical consultation and assessment prior to treatment, tailoring it to their specific needs.

Frequenlty asked questions

Whether you are having Botox or Iontophoresis, the process of the treatment is the same. The Botox or electric current paralyse the sweat glands which prevents the production of sweat for up to 3 months.

Surgery is typically reserved for severe cases of excessive sweating where other treatments have not been effective. The procedure is called a ‘sympathectomy’ and involves removing the sweat glands from the affected area.

Wearing loose, breathable clothing, avoiding spicy foods and managing stress levels can all help to reduce sweating.

If you decide to discontinue your treatments, your sweating will gradually return to its pre-treated state.

Your sweat doesn’t go anywhere or get backed up. The treatments simply stop the production of sweat in the treated areas. The rest of your body will continue to produce sweat as normal.
